Downhill Welding Program

The Downhill Welding program offered by Elite Welding Academy is designed to prepare individuals for welding in both commercial and industrial industries, particularly for the pipeline industries.

This program covers all areas of welding safety, welding equipment set-up, welding equipment maintenance, and welding procedures in SMAW, and prepares graduates for suitable employment opportunities in various fields, such as weld shops, manufacturing/production facilities, and commercial/industrial construction.

The Downhill Welding Program is measured in clock hours and is 240 clock hours long, which means it runs for approximately 11 weeks.

To qualify for this program, you must pass a hands-on welding test that consists of either a 6” Sch.80 pipe weld in the 6G position using the E6010 electrode for the root pass and the E7018 electrode for the fill and cover passes or a 6” Sch.80 pipe weld in the 5G position using E6010 electrode running downhill for the root, fill, and cover passes. Completed welds are then subject to a visual inspection by an Elite Welding Academy instructor to determine a pass or fail. Upon successful completion of this curriculum, the student will be given a Certificate of Completion for the Downhill Welding Program.

The student-to-instructor ratio for the Downhill Welding Program is 18 to 1, ensuring that every student receives personalized attention and guidance throughout the program. Steel-toed boots are required, and students must provide their own pairs. The program is available in both day and night classes, and the schedule varies depending on the chosen class type. The day program meets Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. (Friday hours may vary), and the night program meets Monday through Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. (exact times may vary). This course is available at our Houston campus location only.
